Strategies of the Course

· Get to know the TEST

o Familiarize yourself with the format of the test. What is on the test? How are they asking the questions? Is there a penalty for wrong answers? Should I guess? What is the time element?

· Get to know the material

o Most of the questions are based on Elementary Algebra and Geometry, material you have already learned in the previous math courses. You need to refresh yourself on the material and content.

o The higher level math is very basic in concept. A quick primer may be valuable for questions you might not have normally even attempted.

· Get to know the “game” of testing

o Your score is based solely on the number of correct answers. There are numerous strategies you can employ to get the most out of your testing experience.

o Develop a different attack for different types of questions.

o Develop a sense of time usage.

o Mentally prepare yourself to address and control the test in a positive manner, instead of being a victim of time and stress.

o Use a First Run / Second Run game plan to proactively gain the greatest possible number of correct answers.

 ·  Get to know yourself

o Know your strengths and weaknesses. How can you use this self assessment to promote your test performance? How can you increase your knowledge in the content areas that are most efficient for you?

o Each session will conclude with a practice test and analysis of your performance so you can determine the areas that require additional work on your part to best prepare.

·  Get comfortable in a testing environment

o Many students feel the test did not accurately reflect their knowledge and abilities because the environment negatively affects their performance.

o The daily practice tests at the end of each session are intended to de-stress the testing process. The student should become calm, comfortable, and level thinking so the thought processing is clear and focused.
