ACT Test Facts

WHAT IS THE ACT?

 · A College Entrance Exam that is meant to assess a student’s ability to be successful in college

· 2 hours 55 minutes in length

· 4 Core subjects

· English, Math, Reading, Science, in order of testing

· Scoring:

o A Subject Score of 1-36 for each core subject area

o A Composite Score of 1-36 which is the average of the four Subject Scores

 

 · It is NOT an intelligence test

· It DOES NOT predict your success in college

· It is NOT the only thing a college uses to judge you regarding your application

 · Getting over 60% of the problems correct will place you in the top 75th percentile or better

 · GOAL – to obtain as many correct answers as possible, what ever the strategy used


MATH ACT TEST

 

· 60 minutes for 60 questions

· Content Areas:

o Pre-Algebra / Elementary Algebra 24 questions

o Intermediate Algebra / Coordinate Geometry 18 questions

o Plane Geometry / Trigonometry 18 questions

 

· The ACT does not contain questions on Logarithms or Calculus

 

· The ACT may be taken entirely with out a calculator, which promotes the aspect of problem solving.
